Tropical Bass Station Limited Edition 12" Vinyl 180gr.
Record/Vinyl + Digital Album
The very first Australian cumbia sound system Cumbia Cosmonauts proves that Barranquilla is just a short hop from Melbourne. The distinctive Cosmonaut sound is influenced by the Mexican street sound known as cumbia sonidera, the Peruvian psychedelic variant of cumbia, chicha, and the Argentinian cumbia digital wave. Producers Moses Iten aka “Saca la mois DJ!!“ and Thomas “Soup“ Campbell (Miso, Editor) pumped up the Caribbean offbeat rhythm with dubby basslines, creaking synthesizer sounds and driving beats in order to generate the ultimate “Cosmonaut sound”. Next Level: Cumbia Cosmonauts go Global Bass! On the new album Tropical Bass Station, the two sound experimenters display their musical skills with club tracks that reach way beyond the cumbia beat movement, with elements of Brazilian Baile Funk, Angolan Kuduro, as well as flirts with Mexican Tribal. The album includes some special features, such as the song “Tribal Amazonico” with MC Deize Tigronas from Rio de Janeiro, a bass tornado heading straight for the dancefloor! The track “Radio Africa”, performed by Ugandan rapper MC Tshila, is processed with driving beats and slick basslines reminiscent of dub step to form an explosive mixture. With the groovy, dub-infused and bass-oozing cumbia tracks “Amor”, “Colombia” and “Oshun”, the Cosmonauts sustainably fuel the cumbia digital scene with new sounds. The album also features 4 remixes. The young producer Makina from the Dutch capital churned out a remix of Tribal Amazonico using his “sound machines” (makinas). Also, newcomer Cero39 from Colombia is represented with his remix of Troposphere 5000 and Galambo brings us a remix of “Radio Africa” – a heavy African dance mix reminiscent of Elektro Soukousse made in London! Last but not least, Lewis Can Cut has made an explosive cumbia dub out of the track “Our Journey to the Moon”. The album will be available for download as well as in a limited special 180 g vinyl edition out end of November!
