Los Ejes De Mi Carreta

from Lost Tapes EP by Paco Mendoza & DJ Vadim

/
  • Lost Tapes 12" Limited edition
    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

The story behind «Lost Tapes» sounds as though it comes from the age of analog recording devices and media. Paco Mendoza and DJ Vadim had already produced the songs together in 2008 between London, Berlin and Cologne. However, shortly before the release of Paco Mendoza’s solo debut album « Consciente y Positivo » , the original tapes were lost when a suitcase containing a hard drive with the 6 tracks disappeared on a flight from Europe to Peru. During the same flight, a virus destroyed the backup copies on Paco’s computer: it seemed like a curse from the digital age. Since then, the duo never had the chance to get together and produce the songs once again in the same style. The release had to be cancelled; the only thing that was left were MP3 digital mixdowns. Then a little miracle occurred during Paco Mendoza’s last trip to visit his family in Peru: in downtown Lima, he hears the song “Candela” blaring from a street vendor’s plastic speakers. The song is being sold on a tape with other titles. Paco manages to convince the vendor that he is the singer and, after lengthy negotiations, he is given the phone number of the tape and CD producer who supplies thousands of music street vendors in Peru’s capital. After several phone conversations and conspiratorial meetings in desolate downtown courtyards, and through persistent persuasion, the unbelievable happens: Paco Mendoza gets back the hard drive with the master tracks. The title of the EP is decided that same moment: Lost Tapes.

Each song is a masterpiece in itself, with catchy lyrics, tight beats, imaginative samples and very organic production techniques. Paco Mendoza’s versatile Spanish singing, combined with DJ Vadim’s unmistakable beats, produce a sound experience between deep hip hop and downbeat. The arrangements fit Mendoza’s soulful and profound lyrics. The song “Justicia” is a cry for social justice and features Mendoza’s brother Don Caramelo and Deuce Eclipse. The track “Candela” is a hymn to life featuring Yarah Bravo from London, whose flow makes the song bound to become a hit.
